➤ Is Providence leaving Medicare Advantage?
Yes. Providence Health Plan is exiting Medicare Advantage entirely for 2027, and the whole health plan is shutting down. Members in its six Oregon counties, six Washington counties and Orange County, California will need to choose new coverage for January 1, 2027.
➤ What are my options?
You can join another Medicare Advantage plan offered in your Oregon county, or return to Original Medicare and add a Medigap policy plus a standalone Part D drug plan. The right choice depends on your doctors, prescriptions and budget, so compare both paths before your Providence coverage ends.
➤ When can I enroll in a Providence Medicare Advantage plan for 2027?
You cannot, because Providence will not offer Medicare Advantage plans for 2027. Current members can pick a replacement during Annual Enrollment, October 15 to December 7, 2026, for coverage starting January 1, 2027, and a Special Enrollment Period also applies because the plan is ending.
➤ What happens if my Medicare Advantage plan is ending?
Your current plan keeps covering you through December 31, 2026, and you should receive a non-renewal notice explaining your rights. You can switch during Annual Enrollment or a Special Enrollment Period, and you generally get a guaranteed issue right to buy certain Medigap plans, usually within 63 days after coverage ends.
➤ Will I lose coverage on January 1 if I do nothing after Providence leaves?
Possibly not entirely, but you should not wait. If you take no action, you would generally fall back to Original Medicare, which lacks drug coverage unless you add Part D. Choosing a new Medicare Advantage plan or a Medigap and Part D pairing before January keeps your coverage seamless.
➤ Can I buy a Medigap plan in Oregon without health questions after Providence exits?
Usually yes, within limits. Because your Medicare Advantage plan is ending, you generally have a guaranteed issue right to buy certain Medigap plans, typically within 63 days after your coverage ends. Insurers cannot deny you or price you higher for health conditions when you use that right.
➤ Are other Medicare Advantage insurers also pulling back in Oregon for 2027?
Yes, at least one other is. Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Oregon is leaving Medicare Advantage in Jackson, Josephine and Douglas counties, affecting about 12,000 people, though it still offers Medigap there. HCSC is also exiting Oregon, so confirm which plans remain in your county.
➤ Where can Providence members in Oregon get free help comparing plans?
Your State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) offers free, unbiased Medicare counseling. You can also use the Medicare Plan Finder to see every plan available by ZIP code, checking each one’s provider network and drug list before you enroll.
